The ears are off - the airbox suitably destroyed (I can't see how ANYONE can get that out in one piece without removing the plumbing to the top of the radiator!) - no hacksaw blades here - I used sheetmetal sidecutters!
The Unifilters have been sitting looking at me! I had lots of good advice (a variety sometimes conflicting unfortunately ) and the delay meant I had to ride the VTR to the street racing yesterday at Wanganui (http://www.cemeterycircuit.co.nz)
Finally got to oil 'em up and put them on today after rejetting (main jets 142 front 145 rear). Only had K&N red filter oil, but again the consensus was "oil is oil", and the general thought for oiling foam elements was ordinary 30 weight oil in a plastic bag.
Unfortunately with the #45 pilots not in the Xmas mail yet the carbs are still bare bum and I can't start her up.
Seems that the general plan is to do the pilots, start with the mixture screw at 2.5 turns both, and cross fingers.
Bike was going real well beforehand although a little rich so I didn't see too much need to worry about balance and fine tuning.
Anyway - on with some pix...
This is the filter for the rear cylinder (facing front) - a tight fit and touching the rocker cover but otherwise full form.
The consensus was that a heat shield was not necessary (we're pretty temperate year-round around here.)

The filter for the front cylinder was a much more 'interesting fit' and is a bit bent under the frame tube and fuel pump etc to fit in, despite moving the plumbing.

Here's how they look as a pair!

Here is the almost finished product - can't believe how slim and how much more streamlined she looks!

Look carefully Epibunny!

The "off side" with the crankcase breather filter -

What next?
After getting the pilots in and making sure she is going to go!
When the black 'nad arrives, the BUBF goes down to a custom shop down the road for the tins to be painted to match the 'nad, with perhaps some scripted brushwork.
Dave will get to play games with the seat to turn her into a single seat fun bike.
A VTX headlight or similar.
I'll source some L model drag bars, and a fender rack, have to relocate the rear signals, and I think she will still be my ride of choice!
